a member of renowned alsatian koechlin family, born in buhl, haut-rhin, son of jean koechlin , wife anne marie (anaïs), née beuck. first cousin once removed of andré koechlin, , great-grandfather of actress kalki koechlin.


when france lost franco-prussian war prussia in 1870/1871 koechlin family whole decided become citizens of switzerland , dropped french citizenship. after defeat of german empire in 1918, however, koechlin family again applied french citizenship.


maurice studied @ lycée in mulhouse, between 1873 , 1877 civil engineering @ polytechnikum zürich under carl culmann. in 1876 became citizen of zurich ( zürcher bürger ) between 1877 , 1879 worked french railway company chemin de fer de l est .


much of work done gustave eiffel s compagnie des établissements eiffel , koechlin joined in 1879. in 1886 maurice married emma rossier (1867-1965). had 6 children: 3 sons , 3 daughters. maurice , emma lifelong members of plymouth brethren.


in 1887 started work on plans tour de 300 mètres in paris, along younger brother henri koechlin , civil engineer Émile nouguier. maurice koechlin became managing director of eiffel s company when eiffel retired engineering profession in 1893. company renamed société de construction de levallois-perret .


maurice koechlin died in 1946 in veytaux, switzerland in house built himself in 1900.
