several meltwater outflow streams base of russell glacier (67°05′48″n 50°14′50″w / 67.09667°n 50.24722°w / 67.09667; -50.24722) form akuliarusiarsuup kuua river. valley 30 km (19 mi) long, oriented east-north-east west-south-west. north bounded low-lying (300-400m) ridge − part of kangaamiut dike swarm − separating large glacial lakes of aajuitsup tasia , sanningasoq. on southern side boundary formed exposed, barren, , flattened ridge of akuliarusiarsuk.


the lower part of valley narrows down in gorge between akuliarusiarsuk ridge in south , lone-standing sugar loaf mountain in north, forming waterfalls. in immediate vicinity of kangerlussuaq @ approximately 67°01′10″n 50°39′20″w / 67.01944°n 50.65556°w / 67.01944; -50.65556 river empties larger river, qinnguata kuussua, again amongst wide fields of quicksands. narrow estuary of latter @ end of kangerlussuaq fjord referred watson river during american occupation of bluie west 8 air base @ today kangerlussuaq.
