in 1962, kingdom of netherlands, on behalf of suriname, had become constituent country of kingdom, made formal claim new river triangle , triangular-shaped region between new , kutari rivers in dispute. suriname colonial government, , after 1975 independent suriname government, maintained dutch position; while british guiana government, , later independent guyanese government, maintained british position.
