another attraction of andriyivskyy descent baroque saint andrew s church. located atop hill overlooking podil neighborhood andriyivskyy descent. idea construct saint andrew s church came russian tsaress elizabeth petrovna. when visited kiev in 1747–1754, laid foundation brick of church own hand, after church constructed, design imperial architect bartolomeo rastrelli.



the saint andrew s church side illuminated sun in evening.


as tsaress planned take personal care of church, church has no parish, , there no belltower call congregation divine service. died before construction ended, church never cared elizabeth petrovna. after elizabeth s death, kiev court took no interest maintaining in church, last consecrated in 1767. later, there not enough funds maintain church, left maintaining of church private , voluntary funds, such andrey muraviov.


in 1963, rastrelli s original plans building found in vienna, austria. made possible reconstruct original images on building. plan of restoration carried out in 1970s, overlooked main architect-restorer, v. korneyeva. since 1968, church has been opened museum tourists , visitors. church owned ukrainian autocephalous orthodox church.
