the city theater (stadttheater) built in 1909 ferdinand fellner. time of first world war, baden vienna s principal resort: 20 000 came each year, double town s local population. in addition modern curehouse (kurhaus), there 15 separate bathing establishments , several parks. during war, baden served temporary seat of austro-hungarian high command. new casino in 1934 made town premier resort throughout austria. château weilburg destroyed during world war ii. after world war ii, baden served headquarters of soviet forces within occupied austria until 1955.
