the brigade formed organic part of 9th (highland) infantry division, duplicate of 51st (highland) infantry division. when 51st highland division surrounded , forced surrender during battle of france 9th division renamed 51st division. part of these changes 26th infantry brigade redesignated 152nd infantry brigade on 7 august 1940.
on 6 april 1945 26th indian infantry brigade reformed 26th british infantry brigade, part of 36th infantry division fighting in burma campaign. second brigade fought way rangoon. after reformation of territorial army in 1947 active independent infantry brigade within scottish command period.
