johnson statue (1912) in downtown dalton. udc commissioned belle kinney sculpt bronze statue, in johnston posed expression of deep thought, sword resting @ feet . kinney explained, general johnston, in command of army vastly inferior in numbers general sherman s army, had use brains more sword; hence made sword subservient brain.

decatur: confederate memorial. obelisk located behind old dekalb county courthouse on decatur square. monument has been defaced several times.
douglas: confederate memorial, corner of peterson avenue (u.s. route 441 southbound) , ward street (u.s. route 221 business westbound).
eatonton: eatonton confederate monument, median in front of putnam county courthouse, 1908.
elberton:

dutchy (dedicated 1898; removed 1900; placed on display in elberton 1982). wanting promote granite industry , honor lost cause, elberton commissioned italian immigrant had never seen confederate soldier sculpt 3,000 lb (1,400 kg) granite monument. unveiled in 1898, sculpture had cartoonish face, bulbous eyes, , appeared wearing union army uniform. nicknamed dutchy because looked cross between pennsylvania dutchman , hippopotamus, monument pulled down , buried fell in town square in 1900. sculpture exhumed in 1982, run through local car wash, , placed on display in elberton granite museum, remains.

the current (2003) georgia state flag confederate stars , bars flag addition of state s symbolic arch between stars.






the 1956 georgia state flag incorporated confederate battle flag , bars of confederate star , bars flag. according 2000 georgia senate research report 1956 flag adopted in era when georgia general assembly entirely devoted passing legislation preserve segregation , white supremacy , , changed state flag during atmosphere of preserving segregation , resentment u.s. government s rulings on integration.
the short lived 2001–2003 flag included miniature version of 1956 flag along other miniature former flags

city symbols

trenton, georgia: city council upset state s 1956 flag being changed. faced threat of funding cut if refused fly 2001 state flag, city adopted modified 1956 flag complete confederate battle flag city flag in 2002. when new mayor removed city flag in 2004, objections raised sons of confederate veterans , 2005 referendum confirmed flag 278–64.
