the historic kindley house built in 1873 , added national register of historic places (nrhp) in 1988.
the original name of first european-american settlement @ location nebo. nebo area referred old town in chalk valley , earliest pioneer settlement of community. settlement platted in 1870s joseph p. covey, relocated southwest city, missouri, in 1881. ellis tillman gravett opened chalk valley distillery in nebo , proprietor of general merchandise store. in 1891, moved store west out of valley downtown gravette. gravette incorporated on january 27, 1899. 1910 population of gravette amounted 569.
