several human rights groups have claimed death toll in last months of war 70,000. sri lankan government has denied claims of causing mass casualties against tamils, arguing taking care not harm civilians . instead, has blamed ltte high casualty numbers, stating used civilians human shields. both sri lankan government , ltte have been accused u.n war crimes during last phase of war.
