among many licensed terrytoons products comic books, company s characters licensed timely comics, predecessor of marvel comics, in 1940s. later, st. john publications took on licensing, publishing comics featuring such characters mighty mouse, magpies heckle , jeckle, gandy goose, , little roquefort. first such st. john comic mighty mouse #5 (aug. 1947), numbering taken on timely run. st. john s terrytoons comics include field s first 3-d comic book, 3 dimension comics #1 (sept. 1953 oversize format, oct. 1953 standard-size reprint), featuring mighty mouse. according joe kubert, co-creator brothers norman maurer , leonard maurer, sold exceptional 1.2 million copies @ 25 cents apiece @ time when comics cost dime.
