durham:

confederate soldiers monument @ old durham county courthouse, erected in 1924. pulled down during protest in 2017. 8 individuals arrested destroying memorial. many identified members of communist workers world party .
statue of robert e. lee in duke chapel, duke university. installed in 1930s in consultation unnamed vanderbilt university professor. defaced in august 2017. removed in august 2017.
