the visitor center, located @ park entrance, contains museum exhibits highlighting archaeological , natural specimens, auditorium, , book sales outlet. park has 14 miles of hiking trails. no paved public automobile access roads exist in park. rangers give guided hikes , prehistoric tool demonstrations scheduled , advertised, mid-june through labor day weekend. educational programs presented on- , off-site appointment.
natural features in monument include forests, tallgrass prairies, wetlands , rivers. there no lodging or camping facilities in park. excellent camping available @ nearby pikes peak state park , yellow river state forest in iowa; there wyalusing state park in wisconsin. various primitive campgrounds exist in area well. national monument quite close town of marquette, iowa, , across mississippi river city of prairie du chien, wisconsin, ample motel , gambling-boat facilities exist.
