bright canary yellow , short song nellie , emile, placed before cockeyed optimist , of opening line, when sky bright canary yellow intended play off of earlier song.
time (emile) placed in beach scene (act i, scene 7) after emile tells nellie why killed man in france. reprised after ve got taught , felt emile remain on stage while singing of immediate action self-contradictory. replaced in act reprise of enchanted evening ; in act ii replaced marry me? (later repurposed pipe dream) on march 24, 1949, , mine on march 29, on week before broadway opening on april 7.
loneliness of evening (emile) cut before broadway opening. occur in first backstage scene (act ii, scene 2) prior happy talk , sung same melody bright canary yellow . melody can heard in 1958 film emile reads aloud card flowers has brought backstage nellie thanksgiving show; second stanza repurposed , sung prince in 1965 tv production of cinderella.
a reprise of younger springtime follows cable s rejection of liat, added after january 1949. followed 2 separate attempts @ songs cable. 1 song, designated friend duet cable , liat, included such lyrics friend, friend, coming around bend , rejected logan 1 of worst d ever heard. rodgers , hammerstein s second attempt place song there, lovely , considered logan lightweight , later repurposed king , getting know . melody younger springtime song, wife , intended allegro not used.
honey bun not included in january 1949 libretto (a note marks lyrics supplied later).
girl home (cable) preceded ve got taught in original score cut before first broadway production. appears in movie version duet nellie , cable. reinstated 2002 london revival, cable.
