with accession of safavid dynasty, persia emerged independent state, in terms of language , identity. coincided shift use of arabic persian in coins inscriptions. coins tended employ cursive , interlaced script, radically altering appearance of coins.

the earliest coins of india so-called punch-marked coins. these small pieces of silver of specified weight, punched several dies, each carrying symbol. these coins issued @ point in time when india still separated greek world persia (persia proper did not use silver coins @ time).


the sanskrit word rūpyakam (रूप्यकम्) means wrought silver or coin of silver. term related provided image, coin, rūpa shape, likeness, image. word rupee coined sher shah suri, renagade governor broke off mughal empire during short rule of northern india between (1540–1545). used silver coin weighing 178 grains. introduced copper coins called dam , gold coins called mohur weighed 169 grains. later on, mughal emperors standardised coinage of tri-metalism across sub-continent in order consolidate monetary system.
