history
early history

a carmarthen journal 1871 first confirms existence of llandeilo rfc; when covered event between club , 3 other teams, namely neath, lampeter college , llandovery college. in inaugural year llandeilo rfc played on ground known bridge field. due death of 1 of players, rugby in llandeilo appeared wane , game lost support. in 1875 interest rekindled locals, , rugby once again played, on gurrey fach field.


competitive rugby first played llandeilo in 1877-78 season when club entered south wales challenge cup competition 1 of inaugurating teams; , on 12 march 1881, llandeilo rfc 1 of eleven clubs met in neath found welsh rugby union.


george davies first player graduate llandeilo rfc play wales. joined swansea rfc in 1898 , became welsh international in 1899–1900, winning 3 caps (awarded playing @ international level) against other home nations during season. won further 6 caps playing in 1901 , 1905 triple crown sides.


1914 1945

rugby came standstill 1914 until 1919, during world war on cessation of hostilities in 1919, rugby returned llandeilo. in 1919 president, rt. hon. lord dynevor, provided cae william become club’s permanent ground. in 1920s support rugby union in area lessened. advent of association football particular draw youth of town , llandeilo rfc forced liquidation , did not renew membership of wru. 1925 1934 no competitive rugby union played @ llandeilo; in 1934 game organised , played against haverfordwest rfc.


post 1945

after world war ii, llandeilo rfc applied , joined llanelli , district junior rugby union. during period won first trophy in 1953-54, llanelli , district rugby union knock-out cup. in 1949 llandeilo once again members of wru , during time club membership flourished; , in 1954 club became members of west wales rugby union in 1954, progress in west wales rugby union poor on next ten years without significant success.


in 1969, llandeilo s new clubhouse opened; , in 70’s llandeilo athletic club purchased cae william on behalf of llandeilo rfc.


modern day

in 1986-87 season, llandeilo rfc won section e of west wales rugby union championship. club reformed junior sections, allowed basis future talent , growth.


during 1990s club experienced success on field controversy off it. 1993 club found in premier division of wwru first time, in months of 1993 club found in midst of criminal investigation. fund raising attempt club resulted in defaulting of payments sponsors. wru , police informed , welsh media investigated story. on investigation transpired club had higher allocation of international tickets committee had been led believe, , in aftermath, club secretary joe harries resigned.


the 1995-96 season saw introduction of professionalism , national leagues; llandeilo placed in division 6 west.


the year 2000 saw new 100 seater stand facility opened @ cae william.; unveiled llanelli star player ray gravell.


the 2008/09 season saw llandeilo promoted unbeaten season.


after 15 years llandeilo rfc have got youth development see stars of future, , may progress first team.
