the university of republic law school established on june 18, 1838 academy of jurisprudence, making oldest law school in nation. became branch of university of republic on july 18, 1849. branch of university hasn t moved main building downtown montevideo. law school in uruguay until arrival of catholic university in 1984.


many presidents of uruguay, senators, representatives , other public authorities law degree have graduated law school. notable professors include jorge gamarra, alejandro abal, alberto perez perez, dora bagdassarian, helios sarthou, carlos delpiazzo, gonzalo fernández, , daniel ferrere.
