construction controversy

moon area school board members, in 2004, voted undertake massive renovation project of school district s middle school , high school campus. construction, set begin after 2005–06 school year, prompted district residents elect new majority of school board members opposed construction plans. plan halted in 2006 after 5–4 school board vote.


the new plan calls building new high school , renovating current high school, making new middle school.


the school earned poor grade, d- according sunshine review s transparency checklist, not disclosing information on school s website.


district employee contracts

in march 2007, moon area school board approved five-year contract district s support staff. new contract included increase of 2.85 percent , support staff members must pay part of health care benefits.


teacher strike, eventual contract (2010–2011)

in november 2010, moon area school district teachers went on strike 3 weeks before returning classroom.


in june 2011, moon area school board members approved five-year contract teachers union included no raise first year , salary increases follows in next 4 years of deal: 4 percent, 3.2 percent, 4.5 percent , 4.4 percent.

on december 8, 2015, moon area school board voted put superintendent curt baker on administrative leave. board president jerry testa stated, made decisions felt in best interest of district. after vote, dr. donna k. milanovich became new moon area school district s interim superintendent.
