in 2007, south korean ministry of environment has announced south , north korea, russia, , china collaborate on bringing japanese sea lion in east sea of korea. national institute of environmental research of korea commissioned conduct feasibility research project. if animal cannot found, south korean government plans relocate california sea lions united states. south korean ministry of environment supports effort because of symbolism, national concern, restoration of ecological system, , possible ecotourism.
