the headwaters of river rise on slopes of mount superbus, part of main range, before passing through cambanoora gorge. river flows through towns of killarney , warwick, while tributary gowrie creek drains slopes around toowoomba. @ surat condamine turns south-west , becomes known balonne river. condamine descends 516 metres (1,693 ft) on 657-kilometre (408 mi) course, catchment area of 13,292 square kilometres (5,132 sq mi). water basin contains more 1,800 wetlands.

the balonne river forks near dirranbandi western branch being called culgoa river which, in turn, flows darling river. eastern branch of balonne river in turn branches again - bokhara river on right , narran river on left (eastern) side. these rivers join barwon river west of brewarrina flows darling river. towns balonne passes through include st george, dirranbandi , surat. in area bungil creek joins balonne river.
