the cchr suspended activities when world war ii began. revived in 1944. reorganization, explained emmanuel chapman, made urgent numerous requests members of committee pointed resurgence of intolerance @ time. united states supreme court justice frank murphy named honorary chairman of reorganized committee.


notable prelate edwin vincent o hara joined cchr in 1944. in november 1945 cchr awarded monsignor john a. ryan award congress of industrial organizations president philip murray , bishop bernard james sheil of chicago, consequently commended president harry truman.
