Catalysis Renalase

renalase converts either 6-dihydro-nad(p)h (left) or 2-dihydro-nad(p)h (right) nad(p)+.

renalase isolated in native form, is, without refolding steps, catalyzes oxidation of 6dhnad(p) or 2dhnad(p), isomeric forms of β-nad(p)h . in contrast clear evidence catalysis of activity, native renalase used in these experiments did not catalyze conversion of catecholamine epinephrine adrenochrome.

renalase secreted in plasma, , functions anti-apoptotic survival factor. plasma membrane ca2+ atpase pmca4b putative receptor extracellular renalase. binding of renalase pmca4b stimulates calcium efflux subsequent activation of pi3k , mapk pathways, increased expression of anti-apoptotic factor bcl-2, , decreased caspase3-mediated apoptosis. administration of recombinant renalase protects against acute kidney injury (aki), , against cardiac ischemia in animal models.
