at same time loyola university new orleans operated , owned wwl-am, university s first student-run radio station began broadcasting carrier-current station wvsu-am in 1959. station relaunched wolf-am @ end of spring semester in may 1966, in honor of university s mascot, wolfpack. during fall semester s start in august 1968, student-run station changed call letters wldc-am, studios in lower level of university s danna center , larger operational staff, included news operation , live broadcasts of loyola wolfpack games. station went silent near 1977, relaunch of station near start of spring semester on february 4, 1980. in 1986, wldc-am , wldc-tv moved new studios in communication/music complex on fourth floor several professional television studios wldc-tv, newsroom, control rooms, , recording booths, wldc-am. in 1996, wldc-am , wldc-tv, still under department of communications, went off air due institutional eliminations in pathways, eliminating broadcasting @ university.
