slodtz spent seventeen years in rome, chosen execute statue of st. bruno (1744) niche in nave of st peter s. statue demonstrates saint s refusal of bishop s miter , staff offered cherub, while right hand rests on skull, evoking mortality. simplicity of monk s robes , shaved head adds classical style heavily baroque sculpture. sculpted tomb of marquis capponi in san giovanni dei fiorentini. other roman churches showcase work including san luigi dei francesi , santa maria della scala.
