roos specialized in pastoral idylls, idealized landscapes ancient ruins. found inspiration in engravings. these pastoral scenes represent longing of roos harmony between men , animals nature. among biblical, historical , genre scenes, roos preferred subjects involving animals: shepherds of nativity, venus , adonis. roos 1 of finest german portrait painters of time. painted princes, noble ladies , officers, frankfurt middle classes. roos worked many individual drawings (albertina, vienne), of domestic animals. intensified individuality of each species.
