although slate-mining staple of skarloey railway. these mines have winch @ top of slope called incline cable wrapped around. both cables coupled end of line of trucks. trucks loaded slate roll down 1 side of incline, , motion pulls empty trucks top.

the lead mines located near toryreck on thomas branch line, accessing via goods-only line (towards knapford harbour). lead mines (formerly mined gained them there name, until lead veins dried in 1930), since uranium mined here.
