trails second beach start @ quileute indian reservation, , span 1 mile (1.6 km) before reaching coast. second beach longest , flattest of 3 beaches , populated. though within mile of first , third beach in each direction, north , south, other beaches inaccessible because of protruding headlands , steep bluffs. 0.5 miles (0.80 km) offshore archipelago. sea stacks mixed throughout small islands , known quileute needle. part of wildlife preserve called quillayute needles national wildlife refuge. wildlife protects coastal creatures including seabirds, oystercatchers, , gulls.
