attica site of prison riot in 1971 resulted in 43 deaths, of 33 convicts , ten correctional officers , civilian employees. 1 officer died @ hands of rioting convicts in riot s stages. rest died gunfire state troopers , other retired officers. 1 of biggest reasons riot overcrowding , injustice towards inmates, day attica correctional facility still on maximum capacity double bunking small portion of population in small cells designed house 1 inmate.
