after military service coxe bought golden gate scenic steamship line, operate red & white fleet of ferry , tour boats on san francisco bay. coxe operated ss frank m. coxe local cruise ship , tour ferry until 1950s.
restaurant
after retiring active vessel, coxe converted floating restaurant called showboat in stockton, california. restaurant went through several leases , operated under several names in various locations. @ 1 point dance club catering “under 21” patrons. in 1960s , 1970s berthed @ jack london square in oakland, california, , moved burlingame, california , operated pattaya princess, thai restaurant, in 1970s , 1980s, closing in 1990.
current use
from closing of pattaya princess until 2006, general frank m. coxe vacant hulk, until local restaurateurs bought ship mr. robert sherman, remained berthed in san francisco bay in burlingame, california, south of san francisco international airport.
the new owners obtained extended lease city of burlingame , renovated vessel. name of vessel changed general frank m. coxe sherman in honor of previous owner, , operated restaurant of name.
in 2008, owner had taken out loan repair her, loan defaulted , sherman went foreclosure. state lands commission, owns land sherman rested upon, asked vessel moved. on sunday, june 15, 2014, sherman/coxe removed location in burlingame , towed stockton marina.
