in 1956, bette nesmith graham invented first correction fluid in kitchen. working typist, used make many mistakes , strived way correct them. starting on basis of tempera paint mixed common kitchen blender, called outcome fluid mistake out , started provide co-workers small bottles on brand s name displayed.


by 1958, graham founded mistake out company , continued working kitchen nights , weekends produce small batches of correction bottles. fired typist job executive secretary after made mistake typing in company name (mistake out company @ time) instead of employer s name (texas bank , trust) on piece of correspondence. after stroke of bad luck, decided devote time new company.


the inventor offered product ibm, declined offer. sold product house 17 years; name changed liquid paper shortly after. 1968, product profitable, , in 1979 liquid paper corporation sold gillette corporation $47.5 million royalties.


in 2000, liquid paper acquired newell rubbermaid. in regions of world, liquid paper endorsed papermate, known writing instruments brand (also owned newell rubbermaid).


graham s son mike nesmith, first achieved fame guitarist/singer in popular 1960s pop band monkees, primary heir fortune upon death in 1980.
