the musolaphone (also marketed multa musola) developed automatic electric company of chicago, illinois use automatic enunciator loudspeakers transmit entertainment on telephone lines subscribing homes , businesses. in 1910 automatic electric company announced new loudspeaker, uses including: automatic enunciator, man talking in new york can heard in every part of large room in chicago... may make possible public speaker address million or more people @ 1 time... running descriptions of baseball games, or prize fights can sent on long distances entertainment of sporting fans of varieties.


in 1910 automatic enunciator company formed in chicago market invention. initially, automatic enunciators employed in public address systems. in summer of 1912 company began demonstrations in portland, oregon, under name multa musola, , in spring of next year, advertisements oregon enunciator company entertainment system appeared, promoting both home , business service. however, there no evidence portland multa musola service ever began operation, , later year state of oregon, acting under blue sky law, prohibited oregon enunciator company doing business, due concerns financial viability.


an experimental commercial musolaphone service established in south-side chicago in 1913, working in conjunction illinois telephone & telegraph co. john j. comer, former general manager of tel-musici installation @ wilmington, delaware, described inventor. 1914 report reviewed chicago musolaphone s daily schedule, began daily @ 8:00 a.m., , included news, weather reports, , exact time @ noon, followed musical programs, running description of ball games of home team , scores innings of other teams in both leagues during baseball season , , announcement of special bargain sales @ leading stores . subscribers charged $3 week service. effort short-lived, however, , discontinued sometime in 1914. in 1914, announced federal telephone company of buffalo, new york planning establish own musolaphone service, appears no other systems ever established.
