the lerici class design has been exported algeria, australia, finland, malaysia, nigeria, united states, thailand , taiwan. however, inflexible export policy , demands intermarine ships built in italy believed have prevented wider sales. these restrictions lessened in leadup deals united states , australia.

mahamiru class

the royal malaysian navy operates 4 ships based on lerici class design: kds mahamiru (11), jerai (12), ledang (13), , kinabalu (14). 4 ships ordered intermarine on 20 february 1981, commissioned royal malaysian navy on 11 december 1985, , arrived in malaysia on 26 march 1986. referred malaysian lericis or mahamiru class ships, 2 each based in lumut , labuan.

mahamiru class ships vary in design lerici class. significant of these mahamirus equipped 2 diesel engines dedicated propellor shafts instead of single engine , propellor, giving them maximum speed of 16 knots (30 km/h; 18 mph) , minehunting speed of 7 knots (13 km/h; 8.1 mph). malaysian ships equipped thomson sintra tsm 2022 sonar, thomson-csf radar, , 2 pap-104 remote-operated submersibles, , 1 metre (3.3 ft) longer italian vessels based on. instead of 20 mm oerlikon, ships armed single bofors 40 mm l/70 gun. standard crew complement 42, 5 of whom officers.

mahamiru , ledang modernised thales part of royal malaysian navy s service life extension program. tsm 2022 sonars upgraded mark iii version, , ships reconditioned meet minimum of ten more years active service.

nigerian lerici

in late 1980s, nigerian navy acquired 2 lerici class ships. ohue (m 371) ordered in april 1983, laid down on 23 july 1984, launched on 22 november 1985, , commissioned on 28 may 1987. marabai (m 372) laid down on 11 march 1985, launched on 6 june 1986, , commissioned on 25 february 1988.

the nigerian lericis based on mahamiru class, use pluto submersible, racal decca 1226 radar, , slower maximum speed of 15.5 knots (28.7 km/h; 17.8 mph). nigerian ships armed 2 30 mm cannons, , have crew complement of 50, including 5 officers.

because of lack of funding , maintenance, ohue , marabai among several ships of nigerian navy non-operational 1996. however, @ 2013, both of these vessels undergoing refurbishment prior rejoining nigerian naval fleet.

osprey class


uss cardinal

in august 1986, following cancellation of 17-strong mine warfare ship class after prototype failed shock testing, united states navy placed order mine warfare ship based on lerici class. in order keep construction of twelve ships, referred osprey class, under control of intermarine, company established intermarine usa acquiring sayler marine corporation. initially, twelve ships built intermarine usa in savannah, georgia, in october 1989, construction 4 ships contracted out avondale industries. ships launched between march 1991 , june 1997, , commissioned between november 1993 , december 1998.

the osprey class ships larger other lerici designs: displace 918 tons loaded, 57.3 metres (188 ft) long, 11 metres (36 ft) wide, , draught of 2.9 metres (9.5 ft). ships fitted 2 diesel motors driving 2 voith schneider propellers; these cycloidal propellers eliminate need aft 2 active rudders. ships use raytheon/thomson sintra sqq-32 vds sonar minehunting, , alliant slq-48 remote vehicles mine disposal. ships carry crew of 51, including 4 officers, , armed 2 12.7-millimetre (0.50 in) machine guns.

upon entering service, twelve ships assigned united states atlantic fleet, intention remain in service approximately twelve months before being transferred united states navy reserve. however, of ships remained in service until decommissioning in 2006 , 2007. class replaced in service avenger class mine countermeasures ships, , of 2008, 8 ospreys had either been transferred or marked transfer other navies: 2 each hellenic navy, lithuanian navy, turkish navy, , republic of china (taiwan) navy.

huon class

in 1991, force structure review saw need replace bay class inshore minehunters. operating capabilities of bay class found severely lacking, 4 of 6 ships cancelled before construction started. in 1994, contract awarded australian defense industries (adi) construct 6 minehunters based on gaeta subclass. construction joint venture intermarine.

the hull of first ship, hmas huon constructed intermarine shipyard in sarzana, italy, sent australia in 1995 fitting out @ adi s shipyard in newcastle, new south wales. adi constructed other 5 ships in class, named after australian rivers.

the australian ships, referred huon class, have greater displacement , draft gaetas. ships use gec-marconi type 2093 sonar, 2 sutec double eagle remote mine disposal vehicles, , armed 30 mm dc30b gun. ships have crew of 36 (including 6 officers), further accommodation 13 more, including 6 divers. class entered service between 1998 , 2002 , based @ hmas waterhen in sydney.

lat ya class

eight minehunters based on gaeta class ordered royal thai navy on 19 september 1996, after intermarine won tendering process initiated in april year. built @ intermarine s sarzana shipyard, first 2 ships of class (htm ships lat ya , tha din daeng laid down in 1998 , launched in 1999. other 6 ships cancelled before laid down.

in comparison gaetas, lat ya class ships have greater displacement of 680 tons, corresponding increase in draught 2.9 metres (9.5 ft). use atlas elektronik radar , sonar, pluto rovs, , fitted 30-millimetre (1.2 in) msi cannon. each ship carries 8 officers, , 42 other crew.

katanpää class

in 2004, finnish navy began @ replacements kuha class minesweepers, had been in service since 1974. on 23 november 2006, contract signed intermarine build 3 mine countermeasures vessels (initially referred mcmv 2010 class, mito class).
