Insignia Afghan Air Force

the royal afghan air force retained roundels until adopting new style in 1967, unique insignia consisting of tri-color triangle using national colors upon white disc, on inscribed arabic lettering forming various phrases. roundel placed on rudder in place of flag. remained in use after overthrow of monarchy until russian invasion in 1979, when new insignia of red disc yellow inscriptions adopted. short-lived however, in 1983, more soviet-standard red star on white disc ringed in black, red, , green adopted. these maintained until after soviet departure.

upon departure of soviet forces afghanistan, , fall of communist government, return triangle insignia noted, although markings varied depending on ownership of aircraft.
