report on trial of natalya gorbanevskaya, issue 15 (31 august 1970)


the issue reported on trial of social christian union in leningrad , carried information camps. main focus, however, trial of galanskov , ginzburg in moscow.


as first compiler of chronicle , typist, gorbanevskaya produced zero-generation copy based on information friends in moscow, using typewriter purchased on semi-legal grey market. made 6 copies secretly distributed friends, made further carbon-copies on own typewriters, passing them on, in turn, friends , trusted acquaintances.


gorbanevskaya arrested on 24 december 1969, while compiling issue 11. managed hide source papers, had handwriting identify other authors, in desk, , additional information hidden in coat. kgb missed both of these hiding places. issue 11 released on schedule , included report on gorbanevskaya s arrest. released, again arrested in 1970 , put on trial. diagnosed suffering schizophrenia, gorbanevskaya held in soviet psychiatric prison until february 1972. allowed return moscow , in 1975 emigrated france.


following gorbanevskaya s arrest, work taken on literary critic anatoly yakobson. collated material issues 11–27 of chronicle until end of 1972, after emigrated ussr.
