saint andrew s church

another attraction of andriyivskyy descent baroque saint andrew s church. located atop hill overlooking podil neighborhood andriyivskyy descent. idea construct saint andrew s church came russian tsaress elizabeth petrovna. when visited kiev in 1747–1754, laid foundation brick of church own hand, after church constructed, design imperial architect bartolomeo rastrelli.

the cellar of building contained barber s shop, grocery store , butcher shop. remaining premises used apartments rent. when dimitri orlov died in 1911 while building railroad in russian far east, widow, left 5 children, had sell off house pay family s debts. in 1983, renovation works started on building convert hotel. since fall of soviet union in 1991, various reconstruction works have been largely unsuccessful. of 2009, castle of richard lionheart still stands empty , fenced off in renovation.
