10 march 2001 – leonardo multi purpose logistics module rests in discovery s payload bay in view taken iss crew member using digital still camera during sts-102.

the leonardo mplm, known mplm-1, 1 of 3 multi-purpose logistics modules operated nasa transfer supplies , equipment , international space station. leonardo used 8 of twelve mplm flights space station, raffaello being used other four. first mplm launched, making first flight in march 2001, aboard space shuttle discovery on sts-102. following last flight mplm, on sts-131 in april 2010, underwent conversion become permanent multipurpose module, , launched aboard discovery on sts-133 become permanent component of station.

like other multi-purpose logistics modules, constructed italian space agency, chose name after leonardo da vinci. construction began in april 1996, , module delivered nasa @ kennedy space center in august 1998 airbus beluga aircraft.
