development status

pegasus mail running on ubuntu linux distribution using wine compatibility layer.

until 2006 versions of pegasus mail supplied free of charge, , printed user manuals available purchase. in january 2007 announced distribution , development of pegasus mail had ceased due inadequate financial support sale of manuals. later in month, due avalanche of support user community, announced development resume. however, pegasus mail change freeware donationware , mercury change licence fee configurations more number of email boxes. donation button added website on 1 march 2007.

a public beta test version of version 4.5 announced on 3 october 2008 stated complete , stable, provided without formal technical support - should apply due diligence testing before using in production environment . new version has not been developed further beyond earlier versions, has been ported obsolete v5.02 of borland c++ microsoft visual studio 2008, major undertaking in itself. list of changes , other information linked here.

on 2 february 2009 david harris said bug reports version 4.51 beta being reviewed intention of getting formal release out in next few weeks.

on 19 june 2009 david harris announced on pegasus mail site development of pegasus mail , associated mercury program continue if sufficient users commit donating us$50 annually; on 21 july 2009 said there had been start.

on 3 july 2009 pegasus mail 4.51 (final) , mercury/32 v4.72 released.

on 23 january 2010 pegasus mail 4.52 (final) released (includes improvements windows 7).

on 2 november 2010, david harris posted following message regarding progress of development on newest release of pegasus mail, pmail version 5.0:

progress continues on new contacts manager pegasus mail version 5. new contact manager uses sql-based back-end storage, , offers incredibly rich range of attributes , options: exist alongside ageing pegasus mail address book format, , while existing address books continue work, there options import contents new contact manager database. new code has been designed heavily external synchronization in mind, @ least initially, not including built-in synchronization clients: there extensive api other developers can use perform synchronization (down attribute level) though, , real-world usage solidifies after release, evaluate synchronization clients might appropriate provide standard options. hope release initial version of pegasus mail version 5 new contact manager in place either late in december year, or in 2011. subsequent version entirely-new message store have been working on over year follow @ later stage. m excited new contact manager - believe have enormous impact on way many people work in world of e-mail overload

on 23 february 2011 pegasus mail 4.61 released. includes new html renderer uses built-in windows renderer of internet explorer, bearhtml renderer has been improved , can used instead. v. 4.61 has new graphics, updated interface, number of smaller changes or improvements , various bug fixes. v4.62 had improvements editor , elsewhere.

on 22 december 2011 bug fix version 4.63 became available.

on 8 march 2014 version 4.70 released. version includes hunspell spelling check , openssl encryption besides further improvements. v4.71 released in january 2016. version 4.72 released in april 2016.

developer david harris in april 2017 said that, despite no news being published time, both pegasus mail , mercury transport system under active , major further development.

an official community support site pegasus mail opened in may 2007 @ community.pmail.com. site offers monitored forums shared technical support , blogs developers.

wiki

since february 2009, pegasus mail has had own wiki, used on-line knowledge resource. wiki has crashed around 2012 , has not been restored since.

linux

there no linux version of pegasus mail. pegasus runs under linux using wine compatibility layer. ssl e-mail access in pegasus mail under wine did not work such of january 2012 due error in wine cryptlib. secure operation possible using stunnel, , work on use of openssl , other matters expected provide full secure functionality in progress.
