beginning in 2011, athletic department requested men s basketball band did not total more 57 musicians, maximize number of seats spectators. arrangement made band staff determine in fall of 2012 men s basketball band should once again audition band, allow best musicians perform @ games.


in 2012, ohio state transitioned quarters semesters, allowing fall , spring bands. fall band began rehearsing twice week (fall band used rehearse once week only), , more emphasis on musicianship, memorization, , choreography, athletic band program has continued evolve highly energetic program complements marching band throughout year. athletic band performs @ men s , women s basketball, men s , women s volleyball, men s , women s ice hockey, men s soccer, wrestling, spring football game, rotc pass-in-review, annual concert on campus. typically fall band program numbers around 200 musicians, spring band totaling more 300.


the school fight songs— buckeye battle cry , fight team across field —were first performed marching band in 20th century. other traditional songs performed band 1960s pop hit hang on sloopy , famous don t give damn whole state of michigan , popularized james thurber in broadway production of male animal. several other popular charts include al jarreau s boogie down, michael stanley band s town, royal crown revue s hey, pachuco! , recent hits such adele s rolling in deep, , bruno mars locked out of heaven. athletic band performs music of many different styles , genres, allows variety of music played @ performances, , allows expand musicianship of performers in ensemble.
